Background

MONSTER TRACKS Original Music was founded in 1987 when recent Berklee grad Chuck Butler was introduced to then Baker Sound Studios owner Gary Moskowitz by Philadelphia Folk Legend Gene Shay. Moskowitz hired Butler as Music Director and together the two established MONSTER TRACKS as the facility's original music production division.

The new endeavor met with immediate success. Butler's first jingle for Wick's Ski and Sport received regular airplay during the popular Howard Stern Show in Philadelphia, and was followed by heavily broadcast jingles for regional retailers including I. Goldberg and Mr. Goodbuys (both featuring lyrics co-written with Shay). The music division's first national airplay came with a series of jingles for retailer Fashion Bug (produced by Los Angeles radio personality Peter Tilden). MONSTER TRACKS' post-scoring work began with TV spots for The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Philadelphia Phillies, as well as a number of political campaigns, including Al Gore's first presidential bid in 1988. MONSTER TRACKS made its Superbowl debut with a spot for Pizza Hut in 1989. Butler has since composed thousands of pieces for well-known advertisers, many of which are featured in a 2017 blog series celebrating the company's 30th anniversary.

Awards

MONSTER TRACKS has received numerous awards for advertising excellence, including Philly Gold Awards for Best Original Music Score, Best Musical Adaptation, and Best Sound Design. National honors include multiple Addy, Pollie, Promax, Telly, ITVA, and One Show awards. Butler was KEYBOARD magazine's Reader Soundpage Winner in 1989, and won a national songwriting competition in 1990, composing an original song for the Institute Of Mental Health Initiatives in Washington, DC. MONSTER TRACKS has composed music in support of numerous causes including The Partnership for a Drug Free America, Philadelphia Food for the Homeless, The Salvation Army, The Business and Arts Council of Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, and the Delaware Valley Project with Industry.

Talent

A music production company is only as good as the talent at it's disposal, and MONSTER TRACKS' success is due in no small part to the diverse and outstanding pool of musicians available in the Philadelphia region. Members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, "No Name" Pops, Opera Company, and Pennsylvania Ballet have been featured in our productions. The Philadelphia theater circuit provides us with top-notch performers as well, and the music faculty at University of the Arts are regulars in our studios. Nearby Atlantic City is also a strong source of talent; and of course Philadelphia has a longstanding tradition of artists working in every popular genre, from jazz and blues, to rock, country, and rap, to the latest electronic styles. All of our performers are experienced professionals who are truly appreciative of the opportunity to make music, and this is apparent in the care and attention to detail that goes into each and every MONSTER TRACKS production.
